Kindle Kids Book Creator – Books with links

A text with a link

Once you know how it works, it’s very easy to add links to your Kindle ebooks.

Open your Kindle Kids Book Creator. Go to the page of your book where you want to add a link. Choose Add text from the Text Toolbar and enter the text you want.

From the menu select View > Html View.

Now you see two tabs, Design and HTML. Click on the HTML tab.

Kindle Kids Book Creator - Books with links code

Before editing the HTML-code it’s perhaps recommended to first save your project.

In the code replace the text:

<a class=”app-amzn-magnify” id=”amzn-ke-anchor-1″ data-app-amzn-magnify='{“sourceId”:”amzn-ke-txt-1″,”targetId”:”amzn-ke-txt-mag-1″,”ordinal”:1}’ tabindex=”0″>

<a href=””>

Where is, of course, the website or page you want to link to.

Create a book preview (F5) and watch the link work.

A picture with a link

When you want to add a hyperlink to the image of a certain page you can do the following:

After <body> you must add the following line:

<div><a href=””><img src=”../html/scaled-images/page27copy.jpg” alt=”” draggable=”false” width=”100%” height=”100%”></a></div>

Where is, again, the website or page you want to link to. And page27copy.jpg is the image of the page you want to add a link to. The image has to be in the map ../html/scaled-images, which is, I think, the default map.

Be carful! I tried this, and it worked for me. But it can totally mess up you book. So, before editing the HTML-code you better make a copy of your project.

Thank you so much, Dick, for your article: “Kindle Kids Book Creator – Books with links”.
Do you know how add to my Kindle ebook a picture with a link?
Thank you!

Hi Hana,
Because the whole page in an ebook made with Kindle Kid’s Book Creator, is in fact a picture, I assume you want to be able to click anywhere on that page to activate a hyperlink. I don’t know if it’s the best solution, but it worked for me πŸ™‚
I will complement the article and explain how I think it could be done.

When you created the book preview, did the link work on all the Kindle Fire options and the Kindle Voyage. I can get my link in my Childrens Picture book to work in the Fire options but not the Voyage (e-ink).

Hi Sue. Thank you for your comment. I tried it, but indeed, external links do not seem to work in Kindle E Ink preview.

Thanks Dick, this is what I’ve been worrying about for over a month…

I was told by others adding links to kids picture books is not allowed/impossible..

even after reading your post i just need to check, is it ok to add links to my website? i wont get banned from KDP or have and problems?

for building a list i need to bring people over to my website so this is a very important part to fully understand….

thanks again

Hi James,

Thanks for your comment.

I don’t see why it would not be allowed to use (external) links in your picture books. In fact, I have seen several book with links. If you have doubts you could contact Amazon.

How do you make the txt link larger afterwards? I am making a children’s book and created a txt link but it was so small. Is there a way to make the txt link larger?

Hi Jane, I don’t know if it works but you can try this:

<font size=”4″><a href=””></font>

When it does work you can change the size by replacing the number 4.

Hey Dick, I tried this method a few times and couldnt get it to work! Has anything changed in the year since you posted? I love the look of the kindle kids book creator but not having “calls to action” or any way of getting people to click out to my blog is a tough pill to swallow. Any thoughts?

Hey Robert, Strange that it doesn’t work for you. I haven’t worked with the Kids Book Creator for a while, but I can not believe this functionality is no longer available. Maybe you can find more information on the Amazon website?

THANK YOU! I have been frustrated trying to figure this out for a week. I even called KDP and they didn’t know. You’d think it would be built into the software. Thank you so much for posting this!
